Over the past year we’ve been working hard to make MSEAS a reality. However, owing to the continued uncertainty with global travel the convenors would like to announce that the in-person MSEAS Symposium will be postponed until further notice. In preparation for our main event, however, we are happy to announce that a virtual MSEAS Teaser event is being planned for December 2021. More information will be coming in late summer about this event!

Dear MSEAS-2020 participants,

On March 11, 2020 the Symposium Convenors and Coordinators met (virtually) to review the status of planning for MSEAS-2020. After carefully reviewing the COVID-19 situation in Japan and the restrictions on travel that are emerging globally, the team came to the very disappointing conclusion that the MSEAS-2020 Symposium must be postponed. You are receiving this message now so that you can take action to minimize any financial exposure and possibly set your mind at ease about travel plans at this difficult time.

The Symposium Convenors are now hard at work on developing and evaluating postponement options. We are just starting this work, so we have no details available at this time, but in general, we are thinking about postponement of six months or one year.

Some soon-to-be Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Postponed until when?
ANSWER: We don't know. We are working on it. We expect to get back to you as soon as we have the confirmed dates.

  2. What about my registration fee?
ANSWER: You can ask for a refund now OR leave it in place pending clarity on the postponement date. In either case, you will be eligible for the 100% Refund - minus $25 processing fee as per the registration webpage registration
We will set new deadlines relative to any new dates for the Symposium.

  3. What about my abstract?
ANSWER: You can leave it as submitted. When we settle on a new date, you will be given the option to modify/update it to include new results. If you feel the need, you may withdraw the abstract.

  4. I have been granted travel support from PICES or ICES - What happens with this?
ANSWER: People granted travel support by PICES will be contacted directly by Christina Chiu (Christina@pices.int). People granted travel support by ICES will be contacted by Alondra Sofia Rodriguez Buelna (alondra.sofia.rodriguez@ices.dk)

  5. How can I keep track of any changes?
ANSWER: We will contact you by email AND we will post updates to the IMPORTANT UPDATES page on the Symposium website IMPORTANT UPDATES

As the Symposium Convenors/Coordinators, we remain really excited by the sessions which are planned and the abstracts that have been submitted. We believe that this Symposium represents an important contribution to marine science and we hope that you will stick with us as we work out an alternative.
