Logistics and Costs

  • Accommodation

    International Residence Hall, Kagoshima University
    4-50-20 Shimoarata, Kagoshima City, 890-0056 (neighboring to the Fisheries campus)
    Successful applicants will have their accommodation at the Residence Hall covered by PICES (maximum 4 nights).
  • Spring School dates

    March 4-8.
  • On-site costs

    PICES will cover:
    4 nights of housing for accepted participants.

    LOC will cover:
    Registration, lab use, vessel, ground transport, lecture room, meal cost of reception and lunch on vessel.

    LOC does NOT cover meal costs.
    Supermarkets, shops and restaurants are available around the Fishery campus and International Residence Hall. Student restaurant is also available from 11:30 to 13:30 during Monday to Friday.

    Please let the chair Naoki Yoshie know (by the end of January 2020) if you have any allergies or if you avoid any food consumption due to the religious observation.

  • Travel

    Participants are responsible for covering their travel costs to and from the venue (Kagoshima, Japan).

    PICES may provide partial travel support for accepted participants to the Spring School in Kagoshima. The amount available per student is unlikely to provide for all travel costs. The objective is to provide partial support from PICES that might be leveraged with other funds from the home institution of the students to facilitate affordable travel to and from the Spring School venue.

  • Internet

    Public internet access is available at the campus .

  • Cancellation

    Please contact Naoki Yoshie at your earliest convenience (by 15 February 2020) in case of your PARTICIPATION CANCELLATION

Checklist for participants:

  • Laptop PC (with pre-installed MS Excel and Power Point)

  • Medical insurance
    All participants should purchase a travel (medical) insurance before traveling to Japan. LOC is NOT responsible for covering participants' medical costs.

  • Rain boots and work clothes for onboard training (if necessary)

  • Medicine for motion sickness (if necessary)

  • Bath amenity and towel (not available in International Resident Hall)

Other issues:

  • The chair will notify all participants if the Spring School is cancelled due to severe storms, earthquake and volcano eruption by the end of February 2020. (such situation is unlikely to happen, though)
