EARLY CAREER OCEAN PROFESSIONAL (ECOP) AWARD


An ECOP is someone who self-identifies as an early career professional in the beginning of their career, with ten years or less of professional experience.

Outstanding Presentation Awards

Two awards will be given to Early Career Ocean Professionals for outstanding oral presentations and two awards for outstanding poster presentations:

  • Two monetary awards: $350 (USD)
  • Two Peer J awards offered by the journal Peer J


    Each award will include a free publication in any PeerJ journal (subject to peer review) and a feature on their blog site for each winner.


Objective of the Award

  • Recognize and encourage excellence and engage early career professionals.


Who is eligible?

A scientist is eligible for the best oral or poster presentation, if:

  • they self-identify as an early career professional in the beginning of their career, with ten years or less of professional experience and
  • the presentation is primarily their work and
  • they will present the information


How to apply?

  • No special application is required. All eligible Early Career Ocean professional (ECOP) will be automatically included in the judging for presentation awards if they identified themselves as "ECOP" during on-line registration or if they checked the box "Consider this abstract for an ECOP Award" during on-line abstract submission.

    If you do not wish your paper to be included in the judging for presentation awards, or if you forgot to identify yourself as an ECOP (check here to check), please contact organizers.


Who will decide?

  • Selected members of the symposium steering committee and later-career symposium attendees will evaluate oral and poster presentations.


When the Award is announced?

  • The announcements about the Outstanding Presentation Awards are made during the Symposium’s Closing Ceremony on March 22.
