Social Events

During the conference, there will be a number of social events where you will have the opportunity to relax, network with scientists from around the world, and talk about marine zooplankton.

Art-Science exhibition opening – Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG)
Sunday the 17th of March – 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm
The Art exhibition that is running in parallel with our conference, Drifters Revealed: From the Nets of Tasmania and Beyond, will be officially opened on Sunday 17th March. The function will be held in the TMAG courtyard (across Brisbane Street from the conference venue) and include drinks and canapes. The exhibition will run all week.
We have space for 100 people so please SIGN UP early if you’d like to attend this wonderful event. Deadline: Jan. 30, 2024.
Lord Mayor’s Reception – Hobart Town Hall
Monday the 18th of March – 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
The Lord Mayor of Hobart, Councillor Anna Reynolds, will be holding a reception for delegates on the second floor, Hobart Town Hall (on Macquarie St, 5 mins walk from conference venue.
If you wish to attend, please register (pay your registration fee) so that you can be provided with an invitation.
Dress code is business casual. SIGN UP.
Poster session in the Federation Ballroom – Hotel Grand Chancellor
Tuesday the 19th of March – 5.15 pm to 7: 00 pm
On the afternoon of Tuesday, the 19th, we will be hosting the conference POSTER SESSION. There will be opportunities to talk to poster presenters, as well as network with other marine zooplankton scientists.
Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) event – Hobart Brewing Company
Tuesday the 19th of March – 7:00 pm to late
The UN Ocean Decade describes an ECOP as a person that “self-identifies as being early in their career (10 years or less of professional experience) in any field related to the ocean (not only employed/paid positions)”. So, ECOPs please join us for a night of chatting, get-to-know-you activities, and mingle with your fellow scientists. Food and some drinks provided.
Location: 16 Evans Street (a short walk from the conference venue).
Mid-week Excursions
Wednesday the 20th of March, 12:15
There is free time in the schedule on the afternoon of Wednesday 20th March. If you’re looking for something different to do, then consider joining one of the three excursions here. All trips will be dependent on getting the required numbers so please email Kerrie Swadling if you wish to sign up. Please note there is an additional charge for the excursions and costs vary depending on your choice.
Conference Dinner – Wrest Point
Thursday the 21st of March – 6.30 pm for a 7 pm start
Join us for the conference dinner on Thursday the 21st of March. Hosted at Wrest Point, in the Tasman Room, this venue boasts both stunning water and mountain views.
A buffet-style dinner will be served, with special dietary needs catered for. FOOD PREFERENCE SURVEY. Deadline: Jan. 30, 2024.
