Financial Support Application criteria:

  1. We welcome applications by early career scientists (less than 35 years of age or less than 5 year post PhD) and researchers from developing countries to attend the symposium.
  2. The applicant must submit at least one abstract to the session/workshop of his/her choice.
  3. As funds are limited, priority will be given to eligible applicants requiring only partial support (e.g. airfare or hotel/allowance).

    * Financial support application will not be considered without an abstract.

Additional Travel Funding (NSF) is available for US citizen and residents:

Limited funding to support travel to the 4th International Symposium on the Effects of Climate Change on the World s Oceans is available via a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. The purpose of the NSF grant is to promote U.S. academic involvement in the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES), a leading forum for the promotion, coordination, and dissemination of research on physical, chemical, and biological systems in the North Atlantic and adjacent seas. Current ICES topics of particular value to U.S. marine science interests include climate science, science in the western Atlantic Ocean, Arctic research, and science to support ecosystem-based management.

Requests for travel funds are due 16 March 2018.

Strong preference will be given to U.S. scientists within 7 years of receipt of the PhD who will be participating in an ICES-sponsored meeting for the first time.

Financial Support Grant Notification:

All applicants should receive a notification email from PICES Secretariat regarding the status of their financial support application (granted or not granted)..

Sometimes PICES emails end up in your junk box or get rejected. Please contact Christina Chiu at your earliest convenience if your do not receive a notification email by the time specified in the right-side column "Important Dates" of this page.

Confirm Your Financial Support Acceptance:

When your receive a Financial Support Notification email from PICES Secretariat, please confirm your Grant Acceptance. To confirm, simply reply to an email: specify your name and let us know if you are accepting the grant. If your financial support application has not been approved, please let us know if you are still going to attend the symposium and present your paper.

How to receive your financial support:

All registrants who have been approved for financial support will receive it upon registration at the meeting.
