Visa

A successful registration for the symposium does not guarantee entrance to Mexico, and an entry visa may be necessary depending on your nationality. Please refer to the Mexican Government website to check whether you need a visa (visa-exempt counties; visa-required countries) and to know the details of the application procedure.

The following documents are an alternative to a Mexican visa and might be presented upon entry:

  • A proof of the permanent residence status in Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any of the countries that make up the Schengen Area, as well as in the member countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia and Peru);

  • A valid and current visa from Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or any of the countries that make up the Schengen Area;

  • APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) approved by Mexico (only for entry by air and for business travel purposes).

For recreational, business or any unpaid activities in Mexico that do not exceed 180 days, applicants should request a Visitor (Tourist) Visa at the Mexican Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over their place of permanent residence. Visa applicants should also refer to the Embassy or Consulate website to determine visa processing timeframes and instructions, learn about interview scheduling, and find out if there are any additional documents are needed. Due to the time required for visa processing and issuing, those planning to attend the symposium are urged to submit their visa application as early as possible.

Documents needed to enter Mexico include:
  • A valid passport or travel document; It is not necessary for the passport to have a minimum validity (for example, 6 months), but it must be valid during the entire time of your stay.

  • The properly filled-out Multiple Migration Form (FMM); This form will be given to you by your airline or by the immigration agent, or you can fill it out online. Keep this form as it must be returned at the time of your departure.

  • The immigration officer at the port of entry may ask you to provide:
    • travel justification, including return ticket to the country of origin and hotel reservation, that must be in line with the issued visa;

    • proof of economic solvency for the period of stay – recommended to hold an international credit card;

    • information regarding the activities to be carried out in Mexico – recommended to have a symposium registration confirmation and/or a letter from the PICES Secretariat confirming a presentation at the symposium.
