The position will be located in Juneau or Fairbanks, Alaska. Applications are encouraged from creative individuals with a solid academic background who will complement the expertise of existing faculty, contribute to the Master of Marine Policy (MMP) and other CFOS academic programs, develop an active research program, and engage in professional, public, and university service. UAF is a federally recognized Alaska Native-serving institution that supports bridging Indigenous and Western sciences.

As part of the University’s coastal climate resilience initiative, the Department of Ocean Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a position of Postdoctoral Scholar to investigate the predictability of historical and future patterns of Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) presence and toxicity along the coast of California. The postdoctoral scholar will work under the direct supervision of Prof. Jerome Fiechter and collaborate closely with other faculty members at UC Santa Cruz and researchers at NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Monterey.
Desired skills include experience with statistical models and ability to work with and analyze large model datasets. Working knowledge of programming languages and Linux environment is a plus.

Basin Scale Events To Coastal Impacts Project (BECI) invites applications for the Science Director Position.
DEADLINE: The position remains open until filled.
The position is for 18 months initially, with an expectation that the Science Director will contribute to securing ongoing funding for the Project Office.
The Basin-scale Events to Coastal Impacts project, or BECI, proposed by the North Pacific Anadromous
Fish Commission (NPAFC) and the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) is an ambitious
project designed to build an “ocean intelligence” or “situational awareness” system to address the
changes and challenges that climate change is bringing to the ecosystems of the North Pacific Ocean.
BECI was endorsed as a project by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science and Sustainable
Development (UNDOS) and is envisioned to be active over the length of the Decade. Funding has now
been secured to initiate a project office and the BECI team is looking to recruit a Science Director to lead
the development and implementation of BECI.
